3rd Canvey Scouts

3rd Canvey Island Scouts received a grant of £4,068 from the Local Network Fund for the costs of a purpose built storage facility. This included its base preparation and path laying, plus the purchase of storage boxes.
This facility has enabled the uniformed groups, who meet at the venue on Canvey Island, to have access to equipment which was being stored around the section leaders' own homes. By bringing it all together, there can be the sharing of equipment enabling wider access to activities for the young people attending weekly sessions.
Around 50 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts aged from 6 to 15 years are now benefiting from the work. They have been totally involved in the actual process, which helped contribute to a DIY badge they were undertaking. This simple project has also helped to teach respect for each other's things, good housekeeping and the benefits of sharing. The storage facility has enabled flexibility at meetings; for instance, at the onset of bad weather they can switch from outside to indoor activities because equipment to do so is now at hand.
