How to Apply

Essex Community Foundation awards grants to voluntary or community groups, which are charitable in purpose and are working for the benefit of people in Essex, Southend or Thurrock. We support a wide range of projects and welcome applications from both new and established groups.

We manage a number of funds, many of which are tailored to the individual wishes of our donors. For the majority of our funds all you have to do is complete a General Application Form and we will find the right fund for you. All of our application forms are listed below, please read the guidelines before you complete any of them. If you have any questions call us on 01245 356018. Please note - if your project is based in Romford, Ilford, Barking, Dagenham etc please contact the East London Community Foundation.

General Grants Round

Criteria: To support voluntary or community groups which are charitable in purpose and are working for the benefit of people in Essex, Southend and Thurrock.
Maximum Grant: £10,000 (average grant £3,500).

Deadlines: 9 January and 9 September each year (results within 10 weeks of deadline)

Essex County Council Mid Essex Children’s Partnership Small Grants Fund

Criteria: To support preventative and diversionary activities for children and young people, ideally, between 8-12 years of age.  Please note this is a one year pilot programme aimed at supporting small, grassroots organisations with an income of less than £50,000 who are working to improve the lives of families and children in the districts of Braintree, Chelmsford and Maldon.

Maximum Grant: £5,000
Deadline: Monday 19th March 2012

Comic Relief
Deadlines: 9 January and 9 September each year (results within 10 weeks of deadline)
Grants of up to £10,000 are available to be spent within one year of being awarded.Funding is available to support groups and projects that:

  • increase access to sport and exercise for people who face social exclusion and isolation
  • help people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives
  • increase local services
  • builds skills of local people
  • increase community cohesion
  • respond to local economic needs

Braintree District Community Investment Partnership Fund
Criteria: To support voluntary or community groups which are charitable in purpose and are working for the benefit of people in the Braintree District
Maximum Grant: £25,000
Deadlines: Applications can be submitted at any time but decisions are made quarterly

Thriving Third Sector Fund

Criteria: To support the strategic development of the voluntary and community sector in Essex.
Maximum Grant: no set limit (circa £100,000 in total available for distribution)

Deadlines: A two stage application process with an Expression of Interest to be submitted by 9th September 2011, followed by a full application due by 24 November 2011.

Criteria: To support local initiatives devised to make communities safer places to work and Live
Maximum Grant: £1000

Marion Ruth Courtauld Educational Fund

Criteria: to support voluntary and community groups working with people of any age, but preferably under 25, providing general educational training and development within the Braintree District. Also for individuals living in the Braintree District who are in education and looking to develop their skills.
