Michael Hindmarch

Michael Hindmarch, High Sheriff of Essex

The new High Sheriff of Essex, Michael Hindmarch, takes up his duties after swearing his Declaration at a ceremony held at Chelmsford Crown Court (29 March 2010). He is the 830th High Sheriff of Essex. The High Sheriffs’ Fund will benefit from funds raised during his year, through which Michael will support voluntary and community groups working throughout Essex to make their communities safe from crime and the fear of crime.

“I am looking forward to my year as High Sheriff and to travelling to all corners of Essex to meet the committed and dedicated people that are running charities and voluntary organisations in their local communities”, said Michael. “Tapping into Essex Community Foundation’s knowledge and expertise of the voluntary sector will help me to have a greater understanding of the needs in Essex”.

Michael has lived in Essex for most of his life and for the last 34 years in Danbury.

His career has been as a director of a number of companies in both the private and public sectors in the fields of industry, retail and the media. He is still active in business.

One of his greatest interests is in encouraging and supporting business enterprise in young people. His non working time is spent at Riffhams which has one of the few listed gardens in Essex, designed in 1815 by Humphrey Repton.

A keen sportsman he participates in several sports, including sailing, tennis, golf and shooting. He is very interested in conservation and is a member of the Little Baddow and Danbury Conservation Societies, the RSPB and CPRE.

He will be supported in his year as High Sheriff by his wife Susan and their three children, Nicole, Anya and William. At the last count he had 9 grandchildren
