Community spirit keeps Toppesfield alive

Community spirit is alive and well in many villages and towns in Essex, thanks to residents who have pulled together to save their shops, post offices and pubs and keep their community centres thriving.

ECF is pleased to have supported the residents of Toppesfield with a grant of £3,000 towards their latest community enterprise - a micro brewery.

Centre is a “haven” for local people

The Todman Centre in Rayleigh is described as a "haven" by its members.  This wonderful organisation is fully run by 23 volunteers and ECF recently awarded them a grant of £6,000 to help with renovation work at the centre.

Financial Abuse of the Elderly

There has been an alarming increase in the number of abhorrent crimes against older people.

The South East Essex Advocacy for Older People has seen a 40 per cent increase over the past two years in case of senior citizens being financial abused by carers, friends or family members.

The Hidden Homeless

The plight of rough sleepers comes into sharp focus when we see those without a roof over their heads out on the streets.  But the problem of the "hidden homeless" is also a major issue, with many people sofa surfing, staying with friends for short periods and moving on frequently.  Life changing help is available across Essex, but often the hidden homeless are missing out because they are not in the system.
