Grants available for Essex charities

20th November 2019

Voluntary and community organisations in Essex are invited to apply for a grant from a charitable fund set up by Essex County Council.

Applications of up to £10,000 can be made now to the Essex Fund, which is managed by the independent charitable trust Essex Community Foundation (ECF).

The fund awards grants to voluntary organisations that either provide a community resource, protect the environment, support carers or young people; including activities which explore culture and heritage.

Cllr John Jowers, Chairman of Essex County Council said, “One of the most satisfying areas of my role is to visit many charities and community organisations. Meeting the outstanding individuals who help to improve the lives of others less fortunate or those working to make their own communities a better place, is a privilege.

“The impact that their work has on the lives of local people is immeasurable and I am so pleased that the grants we award help to further their work.”

Since the fund was established, over £1.2 million has been distributed in grants. Projects which have received support previously include:

  • Kool Carers, Basildon: £5,000 to support young people aged 8 – 18 that care for a family member.
  • North Avenue Youth Centre, Chelmsford (Pictured): £5,000 to continue empowering young people from the Melbourne Estate to reach their full potential in life.
  • Stow Maries Aerodrome, Maldon: £2,500 for a heritage project to engage young people in science, technology, engineering and maths.
  • Together We Grow, Colchester: £6,000 to build a welfare hub in a community garden for people with mental health issues.

The deadline to apply is 5pm on Friday 17 January. For more information, please click here or call the grants team on 01245 356018.
