How to apply

What we do

Each year ECF distributes around £3 million of grant funding to support voluntary and community organisations in Essex, Southend and Thurrock. 

We receive applications for grants and match these with the funds under our management. We currently manage 150 charitable funds, many of which are tailored to the individual wishes of our donors. We also have a limited number that are up to our discretion. 

What we support

ECF supports a broad range of issues and are able to consider most aspects of your organisations work.

We recognise the value of supporting everyday core costs, but do also consider funding a particular project. We can potentially support a particular aspect of a larger project. 

We do not, however, contribute funds to general appeals or to other funders.

You can apply to us at any time and to access the majority of our funds you only need to complete our General Application Form. Our dedicated grants team work to find the right fund to fit your needs. Please read the guidelines (to the left) before you start to fill in an application form.

However, it is important to note that some of our funds do have their own criteria and a seperate application form, so double check which form you need to complete if you are unsure. If you have any questions, please call our friendly grants team who will be happy to help.

Do you have to be a registered charity to apply?

No, any charitable, voluntary or community or not-for-profit organisation working to a charitable purpose to benefit local people in Essex, Southend or Thurrock is eligible to apply for funding. 


Please note - if your project is based in Romford, Ilford, Barking, Dagenham etc we unfortunately do not cover these areas. We encourage you to contact London Community Foundation instead.
