17Giving practical SupportA grant of %u00a34,950 to Maldon & District Community Voluntary Services enabled them to continue running their emergency response service for disadvantaged people across Maldon district, including those on low incomes, with mental health conditions or those facing housing instability.This service provides one-off emergency support such as food, childcare items, cooking equipment and supermarket vouchers. You can read more about the charities we support on the community spotlight section of our website.Supporting Health and WellbeingVolunteers are key to delivering the Food Cycle project in Clacton organising food collections, preparing and cooking food and hosting a lunch. Every week they provide a nutritious three-course meal and create a welcoming environment for local people, including those who are vulnerable, living on low incomes, have longterm physical or mental health conditions, are homeless or are isolated and lonely. In 2024, the project also saved a massive 14,145kg of surplus food from going to waste.I had fled a domestically abusive relationship with just my baby and nothing else%u2026 I hadn%u2019t had a proper meal in days. The food parcel and microwave [from Maldon & District CVS] meant I could finally eat and start to think straight again. It was a lifeline.
