12 Essex Community Foundation Annual Review 2024Ron and Elsie Odden Legacy FundElsie passed away in 2019. Her husband Ron had previously died in 1996. Their estate was to be split with half going to Ron%u2019s godson, John, and half to a specified charity. By the time Elsie died, the We all understand the importance of writing a Will. They enjoyed home based holidays and whilst they did not have children themselves, they doted on their nieces, nephews and godchildren.Their legacy will continue to support the causes and charities that they cared most about.A generous bequestThis year, we received a generous bequest of %u00a350,000 from Brenda Clark. Brenda lived in Fryerning with her late husband, Barry, who had also donated %u00a385,000 to us from a gift of shares and a legacy. Barry and Brenda were involved with ECF since it started in 1996 and we are so very grateful to have received their gifts which will support Essex charities in their memory, year on year. charity was no longer in existence and the Will failed. This meant that the whole estate went to John.John didn%u2019t feel comfortable about receiving the whole estate when the intention of his godparents was to make a gift to charity, but he had no idea which charity to give the money to. Over supper with his neighbour, Ann Coutts, who is also a private client solicitor, he shared his problem. Ann knew of us and suggested that ECF could be a suitable option. Following advice from the Charity Commission, John got in touch and after a couple of meetings and discussions, we were pleased to establish a fund in Ron and Elsie%u2019s memory. Ron and Elsie met through a friendship group in the East End of London enjoying nights out at local dance halls. They married on 20 August 1955 at St Mathews Parish Church, Bethnal Green.Following their marriage Ron and Elsie set up home in Hampstead, later moving to Elm Park. Leave a lasting legacy%u2018%u2018
