13Working with Professional AdvisorsWe%u2019re working closely with Private Client professionals to help them provide the best advice on charitable giving. By deepening their understanding of how we support communities across Essex, more and more advisers are recommending us to their clients, ensuring their charitable legacies make a real and lasting difference. Our lunchtime networking events held at venues around the County, continue to be popular. Since we started these events in 2022, around 475 Private Client Advisers have attended, representing approximately 60 local businesses. This year we held a further three events at Marks Hall near Braintree, Southend Airport and at Mersea Island Vineyard. At each event, we aim to explain the broad reach of our work supporting several hundred charitable and voluntary organisations in our communities across Essex each year. Advisers hear first-hand from their peers, donors and supporters who are already working with us about a topic of specific interest to advisers. The feedback we have received about these events is that they are interesting to attend and really helpful for Advisers as they think about their individual clients and how they can help them to give money to charities in their local community, either in their lifetime or by leaving a legacy if that is something they want to do.Perry Norton, Head of DevelopmentTypes of legacy%u2022 A residuary legacy: a gift made from the remainder of your estate once all other bequests to family and friends have been made and debts paid off. This can be a percentage of the remainder, or all of it.%u2022 A pecuniary legacy: a fixed amount specified in a will.%u2022 A specific legacy: a particular item left as a gift in your will, for example, shares, property, jewellery or a painting.%u2022 A reversionary legacy: allows the surviving partner to benefit from the estate during their lifetime, and then for the balance of the estate to pass to the Foundation. We can help you to leave a legacy for your community No matter what you want to achieve with your charitable giving, we have different options that make it easy for you to support a wide range of local voluntary organisations that are working at the centre of our communities.
