High Sheriffs’ Fund
Each year, the High Sheriff gives financial support to voluntary organisations for initiatives that are helping to tackle crime, community safety and anti-social behaviour in their local area or across the County.
If your organisation is contributing to this area of work, you may be eligible to apply for support of up to £5,000.
WHAT CAN BE SUPPORTED?
To receive support, you must be a voluntary or community organisation, which is charitable in purpose, not-for-profit and working for the benefit of people in Essex, Southend or Thurrock.
Examples of projects that have received funding previously include a personal safety scheme for older people in Tendring, educating young people about the dangers of carrying a knife in Basildon and deterring drug and alcohol abuse in Canvey Island.
Your proposed activity or work must be active from March 2021 as we cannot award grants for costs already incurred ie. retrospective grants.
How will my application be assessed?
Our grants team will assess your application and potentially contact you to discuss it in more detail. An independent panel of judges, chaired by the current High Sheriff and including past High Sheriffs, reviews all the applications received and makes decisions. We will then be in touch to advise if your application has been successful for funding from the High Sheriff’s Fund or from one of the other funds we manage. The Panel will meet in February 2021, so please ensure your funding is required for activities being delivered after March 2021.
HOW TO APPLY:
The application process is easy to follow, but if you have any questions along the way, please contact us. When completing your application form, please ensure you cover the following points:
– Tell us how your project will improve community safety; help local people feel safer in their community or address anti-social behaviour and crime?
– Who are the potential beneficiaries, what is the need for this work, what disadvantages will the project address and what opportunities will the project create?
-Please give details of any local networks or partnerships you are involved in, including if you work with your Local Community Safety Partnership
The deadline date for applications to be received is Tuesday 1 December.
